Dear loyal readers,
The entire staff and leadership team of the Traffic Jam would like to apologize for the piece published yesterday, September 11, titled, “Suicidal People Make the Best Astronauts.” While the piece was written by Derrick Wright, as the editor I take full responsibility for the timing of its publication.
We regret that our paper spoke positively of kamikaze pilots and suicide bombers on a day that mourns a national tragedy at the hands of kamikaze pilots who targeted the Twin Towers. It was completely inappropriate of us to advocate the merits of suicidal pilots in light of the solemnity of the day.
While we stand by our columnist Derrick Wright’s right to free speech, and while Derrick stands by the opinions expressed in his article, we acknowledge that it was tasteless to publish the piece on 9/11.
The Traffic Jam wishes to donate the profits from the piece to a survivor’s charity. As of this writing, we have $127 in ad revenue to raise from it before we go into the positive and can make a donation.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and families of the attacks.
God Bless America,
K. Trout, Editor, the Traffic Jam
